It’s that time for another monthly thrift store challenge. Can you believe this is our second to last challenge for the year? We will be taking off again for November and December but will start back up again in January.

For this month’s challenge, I upgraded a few thrift store finds to help me decorate my home for Fall. I love saving money where I can, so using thrift store finds to decorate with is always a fun challenge!

The Rules:

  • Upcycle an item(s) from a thrift store, resale store, or garage sale into a new piece of decor.
  • There’s no monthly theme.
  • There’s no budget to stick to.

Items you’ll need:

First things first, always clean your thrifted items really well first.

After I cleaned the hanging bucket and pitcher really well and removed the wired stars from the bucket, I gave them 2 coats of Rust-Oleum 2x Spray Paint in Heirloom White. I was nervous about it sticking to the enamel on the pitcher, but it worked like a charm. It also gave the pitcher a really nice flat satin finish, instead of being shiny.

The pitcher only needed to dry before I could put it on display. I popped in some hydrangeas I dried from our front yard and set it on top of a few old, worn and thrifted books.

For the hanging bucket, I decided I wanted it to go on our front door. Since my husband hates having anything on our front porch that says “welcome” *insert eye-rolling emoji* I had to settle for a simple bow. Then, I shoved a floral foam brick inside my hanging bucket and inserted a few faux dried eucalyptus branches.

One more thing that I did to help decorate for Fall was place this old worn shelf I snatched up at Salvation Army for $2 on top of last month’s thrift store challenge cabinet. I placed a white pumpkin and few pine cones inside to dress it up. Sometimes you can let thrifted items be and just admire them in their old, beat-up glory 😉

  1. Oh, you made me remember I bought a pitcher similar to yours and it would look terrific in white. Thanks for the fall inspiration.

  2. You just cannot beat the budget savings when creatively decorating with upcycled thrift store finds! Paint works wonders, doesn’t it! I searched the city over for one of those metal thingys to make a door hanging a while back! Wish I had found one at a thrift store! It is so welcoming on your front door 😉

    1. I agree! My house is mostly decorated with thrifted items, which means I don’t feel as bad when I change my tastes lol. Hope you can find one of those hanging buckets. I see them all the time in the stores!

  3. Hi Amanda!
Visiting from the Challenge too. Love that old shelf and I totally agree…simple is quite enough sometimes. Love what you did with the bucket and pitcher too. Chuckled over your hubby and the “welcome” sign. Funny. I’m more like your hubby & my hubby is the opposite. Ha!

    1. Thank you Florence! He is more of a “go away” person haha. When I was looking for a new door mat, I had strict instructions that it couldn’t be a welcome mat, so I settled on home sweet home.
