Hand Painted Chalkboard Ornament.

I am so excited to be paired up with Maureen from Red Cottage Chronicles. I “met” Maureen when I started our monthly Thrift Store Upcycle challenges and have loved seeing her creative ideas every month. Now I get to see her unique spin on a Christmas ornament!

When I reached out to Maureen about her personal Christmas style, her only rule was no orange! No problem! Ya’ll know how I love my neutrals and rustic tones especially when it comes to Christmas decor.hand-painted-chalkboard-ornament-6

She really left it up to me as to what to create. I wanted something that would be classic and timeless so that she could enjoy it for years to come. She shared with me that her Christmas tree is normally decorated with handmade ornaments from her girls over the years, so I wanted to be sure the ornament I chose to make would fit in with that nostalgia.

While I was perusing Hobby Lobby to pick up some Fall decorations, I wandered into their Christmas craft section where everything was 50% off. I love a bargain!

That’s when I spotted this perfect little chalkboard sign just screaming to be made into a custom hand painted chalkboard  ornament. I immediately had an idea of what to do! I skipped back to the Christmas floral section and quickly picked out a pretty berry and pinecone arrangement, then went home and got to work!

How to Make a Hand Painted Chalkboard Ornament

What you’ll need:

    1. If you are planning to use the sign as an erasable chalkboard sign, be sure to prep the chalkboard by rubbing a piece of chalk all over, and dusting off. For this project, it will be a permanent chalkboard so no need to do this.

  1. Next, I printed out the word “Joy” in my favorite chalkboard font, and using my font transfer method I transferred it to the chalkboard.

  2. After that I traced over the transferred word with a fine point chalk marker. Once dry I went over it one more time to make the word really pop
  3. For the corner garnish, I cut the wires down really short (without taking the pick apart) with my wire cutters. Then I hot glued it down to the chalkboard.
