Growing up, my mom always grew a large vegetable garden that would feed us through the summer months. One of the vegetables we always had in large quantities was green beans. I have many memories as a kid sitting at the kitchen counter snapping beans. I would beg my mom to make these Slow Cooker Green Beans, so it only seemed fitting that we made them while she was here for Easter.

How to Make Slow Cooker Green Beans with Onion and Bacon

Slow Cooker Green Beans are the perfect pairing to smoked recipes slathered in the best ever Barbecue dry rub. Slow-cooked in a Crock Pot all day with onion and bacon, this is hands down the best way to eat fresh or frozen green beans.

Ingredients for Crock Pot Green Beans

  • 2 lbs fresh or frozen green beans
  • 1/2 medium white onion, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp crushed garlic (3-4 cloves)
  • 6 strips bacon
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 2-3 cups vegetable broth or chicken broth

Equipment Needed

Step 1– Start by frying up the bacon in a saute pan until just slightly crispy. Don’t overcook it. Set it on a plate lined with paper towels to cool and drain off excess grease.

***Quick Tip cook bacon in the oven to save time and effort. Line a baking sheet with foil. Layer the bacon slices on top of the foil and place the baking sheet in a cold oven. Turn the oven to 375 and bake for 15 minutes. Watch the bacon carefully towards the end to avoid burning.

Step 2– Place the green beans, chopped onion, garlic, and salt and pepper in the base of a 6 quart or larger slow cooker. Crumble the cooked bacon and toss it on top of the green beans.
