I’m back with my part 2 of my paper and mail organization system. If you missed part 1, you can catch up HERE.
Ever since becoming an adult, I’ve had my own method of “sorting” paper and mail. I have 3 piles I generally “sort” into–to pay/mail, to file, and to shred. Unfortunately, I’ve never really had a good organization of these piles, and would usually just have stacks of paper on my desk for weeks.
For my new office space, I really wanted everything to have it’s own place. You know the saying “A place for everything and everything in it’s place”? That’s the vibe I’m striving for.
When I saw these baskets in the Target Dollar Spot for $3 a piece, I just knew they would be perfect! Of course, the dark gray metal wasn’t going to work, but I love that they already had label holders.
To make these really pop, I took out my trusted Rust-Oleum Spray Paint in Champagne Mist, and went to work.
But, just like any of my spray painting adventures, it couldn’t go as smoothly as it should have. After spraying on my first coat of paint, I left the baskets to dry out in the sun on our back patio. Well, the normal amount of breeze we had that day was just enough to get up under the cardboard my baskets were drying on top of, and flip it over. So I came back about an hour later to my cardboard in the middle of the yard and the baskets lying in various positions on the concrete.
*sigh*
I had to pick out grass, and gravel, and sand them down slightly before putting on another coat. Had this little mishap not happened, 2 coats would have been plenty. But since mother nature finds it funny to play tricks on me, I had to do 3.
Either way, I ended up with fabulously gold baskets!
Of course, I couldn’t stop there! I found these cute little paper flowers at Michael’s in their dollar area for $2.
After handwriting “mail” “file” and “shred” onto some white card stock to make labels, I hot glued a flower onto each side of the label plate. It adds the perfect touch of girly.
The whole project cost me a mere $11, since I already had the spray paint, gold paint marker and card stock on hand.
I’m loving the new look they give to my office!
Stay tuned for my next office project!
